PIRLS 2021: Launch of the International Report and Results

S3

The 20th year of the IEA's PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study), which is widely recognized as the "de facto" international benchmark for assessing reading comprehension proficiency. Data on trends in comparative reading achievement across countries over a two-decade period are provided by PIRLS 2021.

The results of the PIRLS 2021 International Report will be publicly released by the TIMSS and PIRLS International Study Center at Boston College and the IEA on May 16, 2023. This latest cycle of PIRLS has been the only international large-scale assessment to collect data in the backdrop of school disruptions and closures due to COVID-19.
